Sample Itinerary

If you are taking a 2 Day Course you'll sail mostly on Bellingham Bay and the surrounding waters, overnighting one of the nearby anchorages. On the 7+ Day Courses you'll venture further, throughout the San Juan Islands, and for the Advanced Courses, beyond.

What to Pack Image
What to Pack

The dress code in the islands is casual and the key to comfort when sailing is layers. We've provided a suggested packing list (below) to guide you as you pack for your course. Storage space onboard is limited so remember to pack your gear in a compressible, soft-sided bag, rather than rigid luggage that won't fit in the onboard storage spaces.

During your course everyone will take turns participating in the meal preparation and clean up. We've designed a menu that is easy to prepare but is tasty and provides nice variety. Be sure to notify us if you have dietary restrictions or allergies.

Arrival Day Image
Arrival Day & Getting Here

Plan to arrive at our office at 9 AM for 2 Day courses or 11 AM for 7+ Day Courses. Our School Staff will be awaiting your arrival and looking forward to greeting you. We'll let you know where your boat is located and introduce you to your instructor. As a class you'll gather your gear, load up your provisioning (which will be marked and waiting for you) and head down to your boat. After a review of safety essentials, you'll be on your way.

Return Day Image
Return day

As your course wraps on your last day you'll return to Bellingham where you'll likely do some more docking practice before visiting the fuel dock and then heading back to your slip to offload. By 5 PM on 2 Day Courses, or 11 AM on 7+ Day Courses, you’ll be offloading and ready for final pictures and goodbyes. Students often ask about tipping their instructor. For guidelines visit our FAQ.
